Puppy Purchasing Procedure
Our purchasing process has been designed to be transparent, fair, and enjoyable from your first inquiry through the day you bring your puppy home.
Step 1 - Submit a Puppy Application
To begin the reservation process, visit our website at WhiskeyRyeOutfitters.com to complete our Puppy Application.
Our application helps us learn more about you, your family, lifestyle, hunting goals, and expectations so we can make the best possible match between each puppy and its future home.
Applications allow us to thoughtfully place each puppy based on temperament, personality, and your goals as an owner.
Submitting a Puppy Application does not reserve a puppy. Reservations are secured only after your application has been approved and a reservation deposit has been received.
Step 2 - Application Review
Once your application has been received, we will personally review it and contact you to discuss:
- Your experience with dogs
- Hunting expectations
- Family lifestyle
- Home environment
- Training goals
- Questions you may have
This conversation helps us determine which puppy may be the best fit for your needs.
Step 3 - Reservation Deposit
After your application has been approved, you may reserve a puppy with a $1,000 reservation deposit.
Reservation deposits are accepted on a first-approved, first-received basis.
Your reservation secures your position in the puppy selection order.
The remaining balance is due before or at puppy pickup unless other arrangements have been made in writing.
Step 4 - Puppy Selection
Whiskey Rye Outfitters does not assign puppies solely by collar color or birth order.
As puppies develop, we evaluate each puppy's:
- Temperament
- Confidence
- Energy level
- Bird drive
- Retrieving instincts
- Social personality
- Overall structure
Our goal is to help each family select the puppy most likely to succeed in their intended role—whether as a hunting companion, NAVHDA prospect, family companion, or versatile sporting dog.
Selection appointments are conducted in reservation order.
Step 5 - Weekly Puppy Updates
Throughout the first eight weeks, families receive regular updates including:
- Professional photographs
- Videos
- Weekly developmental updates
- Milestone reports
- Training progress
- Socialization experiences
- Hunting exposure updates
We love sharing each puppy's journey as they grow.
Step 6 - Early Development Program
Before going home, every Whiskey Rye Outfitters puppy participates in our early development program, which includes:
- Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)
- Early Scent Introduction (ESI)
- Daily handling
- Age-appropriate socialization
- Novel object exposure
- Introduction to crates
- Potty training foundation
- Introduction to water
- Introduction to retrieving games
- Bird exposure when appropriate
- Introduction to gunfire at an appropriate developmental stage
- Confidence-building exercises
Our goal is to produce confident, adaptable puppies prepared for success.
Step 7 - Veterinary Care
Before leaving Whiskey Rye Outfitters, every puppy receives:
- Comprehensive veterinary examination
- Age-appropriate vaccinations
- Routine deworming schedule
- Microchip implantation
- Health records
- Weight records
Each puppy leaves healthy and ready to begin life with their new family.
Step 8 - Registration & Documentation
Each family receives:
- AKC Registration paperwork
- NAVHDA registration information (when applicable)
- Microchip registration information
- Five-generation pedigree
- Health record
- Vaccination record
- Deworming schedule
- Purchase agreement
- Health guarantee
- Lifetime breeder support information
Step 9 - Puppy Take-Home Package
Every Whiskey Rye Outfitters puppy goes home with our signature Puppy Packet and Take-Home Package, which includes:
- Handmade puppy blanket carrying familiar scents
- Handmade toy basket
- Sample puppy food
- Sample puppy treats
- WRO hat

- Puppy paw prints

- Microchip information

Step 10 - Puppy Pickup Day
Pickup appointments are scheduled in advance.
During pickup we will:
- Review your puppy packet
- Explain feeding schedule
- Discuss crate training
- Review vaccination schedule
- Discuss socialization recommendations
- Answer any final questions
Our goal is to ensure both you and your puppy begin this exciting journey with confidence.
Your final payment for the puppy is to be paid at this time via cash, check or Venmo.
